Painted Votives

​These votives bring bright and cheery color to your tablescape. The design possibilities are endless here; you could create polka dots, stripes, waves, or a watercolor effect. This project couldn’t be any easier but the results look anything but crafty.


  • small dish or paint palette
  • paint brush
  • cup of water
  • paper towel

  • acrylic paint
  • tealight candles


15 minutes + drying time

Gather your tools and materials. You’ll need glass votives, paintbrushes, a cup of water, acrylic paint and something to put it on like a glass dish. If you’re prone to make a mess, a paper towel or two could come in handy. Make sure the glass votives are clean and free of grease or debris.

We prepared a paint palate with bright colors in tonal shades. Dip your paint brush into the acrylic paint and begin painting on the inside of the glass.

Mix white acrylic paint into your chosen colors to create complementary shades.

Layer colors on top of one another to create an abstract floral look.

Once you have the color just as you like, allow it to dry fully. Once dry, paint the entire inside with white acrylic paint.

Allow to dry completely before placing a tealight candle inside. Enjoy the glow!
